I want to use my tape player to convert a portable cd player?

My car is a 97 camrey. It has the imaginative tape deck stereo in it. It all works fine EXCEPT somehow the tape part doesnt work. It wont keep a strip in it. What I am trying to do is use one of those tapes to hook to my portable cd player to listen to in the car. My husband wont put a new stereo in it. He wants it all original. Anyone conscious what its problem is? Or what to do with it? Thanks so much!

On a lot of record decks with auto reverse, when the tape head "hears" no sound, It thinks it is on the vanguard in/out. Most of the time it will flip back and forth a few times and then spit out the tape.

To fix this, you can try to play the CD player before you stick the tape in the deck. If this doesn't vocation, the tape deck might be defective.

The hit on the tape player needs to be replaced, in order to fix the tape player. The entire unit must be removed from the dash.
