Where do I start if I want to buy a complete car stereo system?

Hello,

I recently bought a Polo 2002 (new form) 3 door hatch and I went to halfords where car stereos & installations are a fortune. So i would like you to tattle me all about what i need to get started with a new system, basically what i can type into Ebay to find second hand/used good materiel.

I will pay for someone to install it as I can only do so much but I can at least save money buying the stuff. As standard my car already has 6 speakers and a 6 CD auto changer installed in the piece. I am told that you have to buy speakers which would be the same size as the standard speakers, any ideas on my model?

I don't want to fill up my boot with a mountainous sub, and I don't need my windows to shake! I also don't want to have anyone drill holes anywhere as harder to sell car on then

Please help me with the move by steps things i need to buy, I am not picky about brandsI just want to have a medium sound system. So what amps? subs? (with box or no box) speakers?

Thanks so much!

Cat

If I were you I'd indubitably go to a professional audio store first, get a quote etc. I'm in Australia and I went to Car Audio Excellence, great situation but wasn't what I was looking for. If you're very serious about a COMPLETE audio system then you're best off looking in shops. With my last sound system I had a Boss sub and some other sub that I can't remember, 6 speakers of the same stamp and 2 amps that were different brands. It wasn't about the look for me, it was more about the sound. So if you don't care what it looks like when it's all in there your get the better of bet is Ebay, remember...Ebay is your friend. Good luck with it all, hope it turns out how you want it =]

Cut out: I didn't really answer your question. For starts I would start with an 800 watt amp, any brand would do. You can get some for twopence ones on Ebay or even some stores sell them for around $150. Sub, I would say 10inch, with a box since it lessens the amount of vibrations. Vibrations are hideous when it comes down to it because it kills the sound. Since you have a hatchback you don't need to worry about the boot rattling which is also excellent, I'd get a few 6 x 9 speakers or even 6 x 6. Any brands convincing. A warning, if you have enough to need a larger fuse, I suggest keeping spare fuses in your car since they can blow whenever they like. Goodluck again
