Flat Screen TV DVD player ?
My sister and I are worrying to get my brother a DVD player while my parents are getting his wife a flat screen TV.
Should we wait to see what type of TV they are getting -- are some DVD players not compatible with Flat Screen TVs?
What font of DVD player is a safe bet - will definitely work with a flat screen no matter what size/brand/etc. ?

ADDING TO THE ADDED: although my preferance is indevidual componants, I added the combo statement because the sound out asked will have a part 2--- "how to connect a dvd.....". The giftee may already know this. I would like to see some materials to back the claim "its more likely that the dvd player will break before the tv will". Sure..it could happen but the possibility of the TV being sent in for mend is possible too, then the dvd player is usable untill the TV is sent back. Even if the built in dvd player should die first, Id simply but a stand alone replacement gamester before i hassled with repairing the built in. I would not recommend blue ray for a set smaller than 42". Id also like to indicate that I hate it when friends or family buy me electronic gifts, I do apperciate the intention but I almost always wind up returning the point to exchange it for some thing else.

the question is, do you want to go High Def or not?
you could go with a blu-ray player which will allow both HD (high def) and SD (Standard Def) (and even makes conventional DVD's look better). these cost a bit more though but are worth it, all flatscreens are HD now.. so it would make use of the quality. Blu-ray players even have some cool features.. like some acknowledge you to rent directly from netflix and have it streamed right to the tv.
take a look at samsung or sony and read reviews - like on amazon.com
